SummaryThis [book] was completed by the poor and pitiful one, hopeful of God’s mercy and forgiveness, Zākharīyā; commissioned by Aghnosṭ, son of the priest Marquṣ the scribe, in the protected city of Aleppo. The copy was written for the God-fearing, pious scholar, lover of the Christian faith, al-Maqdisī Yaʿqūb ibn Maqdisī Niʿma, known as al-Dibsī, of the Maronite confession, may God bless him, Amen. This was undertaken at the end of Tamūz (July), on Saturday, in the year 7194 of our father Adam, corresponding to the year 1097 of the Hijra. We seek God’s assistance. [In the year] of the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 1686. Glory be to Him!
